CNNC promotes proton cyclotron program

CNNC’s “Proton Therapy 230MeV Superconducting Cyclotron”project has completed equipment installation and testing at China Institute of Atomic Energy, and began to enter the third stage of on-site installation and commissioning–high-frequency exercise. This is an important milestone in the process of installation and commissioning of the proton therapy cyclotron project.

Compared with the same energy room-temperature cyclotron, the superconducting cyclotron has high technical performance, low operating cost and strong market competitiveness, which represents the development trend of the most advanced cancer particle therapy equipment in the world. The development of the Proton Therapy 230MeV superconducting accelerator integrates the latest generation of proton therapy accelerator solutions, which will effectively improve the level of equipment in the medical field and benefit the public health.

The 230MeV superconducting cyclotron is part of CNNC’s “Longteng 2020” technology innovation plan, which aims to develop a new generation of radiotherapy equipment with independent intellectual property rights. CNNC began to search on 230MeV superconducting cyclotron technology for cancer treatment in 2014, striving to break through the monopoly position of foreign countries in this major medical equipment field, and gradually realizing the localization of equipment for diagnosis and treatment of major diseases such as malignant tumors and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
