Commercial operation of the combined cycle in Jordan

On Monday (April 1st), Acwa Power announced the start of commercial operation of the combined cycle power plant in Zarqa, Jordan.

The station’s capacity is 485 MW, enough to meet the electricity needs of more than 350,000 Jordanian houses. The project is the most efficient thermal power plant in Jordan, with an operational efficiency of more than 51% once starts the operating with the combined cycle, which contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The Acwa Power plant in Zarqa will use three GE 9E gas turbines under its agreement signed in September 2016 with Acwa Power, which has developed the plant, and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd.

The project represents a 2025 vision to promote economic growth and is in line with the National Energy Strategy to promote investments in public and private energy projects to increase the sector’s production capacity by 40% by 2020.
