Coronavirus hits Rosatom nuclear projects

Alexei Lekhachev, President of Rosatom Corporation, announced the discovery of about 100 positive cases of coronavirus among workers at the construction site of the nuclear power plant in Belarus and one infected in the Egyptian El Dabaa NPP project. Among the infected are employees of the Russian company, as well as some employees of the Belarusian contracting company.

Lekhachev stated: “Today we pay special attention and priority to the Belarusian plant. About 100 cases have been recorded, there are about 100 positive tests with the novel coronavirus. All quarantine measures are being applied and adhered to.”

He explained that the situation in the construction sites of the NPPs in foreign countries is under control, and despite that, great efforts are required. He stressed that the pressure of work on the international branch of the company is very large at the present time.

He said: “We have sent a new group of specialists to Turkey. We have also sent specialists to India to repair equipment in the second unit of Kudankulam NPP. Our group in Bolivia has returned home.”
