During the “International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century”, which was held in Abu Dhabi, Mr. Mohammed Shakir, the Egyptian Minister of Electricity, announced that the four required contracts with Russia for the implementation of the Dabaa NPP project are finalized. Mr. Shakir also reviewed his country’s plans to invest 60 Billion USD on renewable energy projects, 28.5 Billion USD were already spent on projects that are under execution. In addition, Egypt is planning to spend 30 Billion USD on nuclear power and renewable energy projects that will be executed by 2030.
It is important to mention that nuclear power and renewable energy projects in Egypt will contribute 37.5% in the overall energy mix in Egypt.
Dabaa NPP project is one of the projects mentioned above. ROSATOM will be the company responsible for implementing the project, which consists of four units that will generate 1200 MW each. The project will cost 29 Billion USD and is planned to be under construction before the end of 2017.
