Why should domestic industries turn to the nuclear sector?

Nuclear Power Plant projects are results of  collaborative work from many sectors such as construction, mechanical, electrical-electronics and machinery manufacturing industries. The conventional industry may be integrated in the nuclear projects to gain advantages in quality, technology and marketing.

The nuclear power plants are composed of approximately 550.000 pieces, such as pumps, steam generators, turbines, diesel generators, carbon and stainless steel pipes and fittings, pressure tanks, valve types etc. These are similar to the equipment used in other power plants and which can be supplied by a non-nuclear country in the first place.

On the other hand, a non-nuclear company entering into nuclear sector should fulfill the necessary international safety standards and quality management systems on environmental and occupational health and security. Because nuclear is a risky industry like aviation, space and defense industries and demands higher safety and quality levels.

Since nuclear energy requires also the security of supply, the non-nuclear company will be oriented to the manufacturing of more technological products. As a result of this, high exportability rate and new employment areas will be created.

Local competence and capacity building studies for nuclear power plant projects will contribute to increase the share of the domestic industry in the nuclear projects and will establish in the long term a domestic and sustainable nuclear industry.

Finally, the capacity developed for nuclear power plants will influence other high value-added industries such as thermic or hydro-electric, mining, iron, steel, maritime, aviation, space, defense and automotive. The developments in these sectors will have an export-enhancing effect on the country.
