Du Xiangwan Biography

Du Xiangwan (1938.4.29-), an expert in applied nuclear physics, strong laser technology and energy strategy. Born in Nanyang City, Henan Province, he was originally from Kaifeng. Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics in 1964. Senior Scientific Consultant of China Academy of Engineering Physics, former Vice President of China Academy of Engineering.

He has presided over China’s nuclear test diagnostic theory and the precision research of nuclear neutronics, and made important contributions to the success of China’s nuclear test and the development of nuclear weapons. He was the chief scientist of the laser expert group of the National 863 Program and is a new type of strong laser research in China. One of the pioneers promoted China’s new high-energy laser technology into the world’s advanced ranks.

He has presided over the China Academy of Engineering’s “China Renewable Energy Development Strategy Research”, “China Energy Medium and Long Term (2030, 2050) Development Strategy Research”, “China’s Nuclear Energy Development Re-Research” and other major energy conservation strategy research projects in China, the current national energy Deputy Director of the Expert Advisory Committee.

He presided over major consulting research projects such as the “Research on Science and Technology Issues in Response to Climate Change” of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, participated in the demonstration of the national low-carbon development strategy goals in 2020 and 2030, and participated in several UN climate change conferences as a senior consultant of the Chinese delegation. He is the Director of the Second National Expert Committee on Climate Change and the Honorary Director of the Third National Expert Committee on Climate Change.

In 1997, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 2006, he was elected as a foreign academician of the Russian National Academy of Engineering. In 2002, he was elected as the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He won the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize and the second prize, and more than ten first and second prizes at the ministerial level. He was awarded the He Liang He Li Technology Progress Award in 2000.
