Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced the inauguration of a virtual Classroom in Khalifa University (KU), which will enable students at KU and ENEC personnel stationed at Barakah to jointly participate in advanced educational programs, using dimensions and similar perceptions of realistic simulators using Triple interactive techniques.
An official ceremony was held at the university in the presence of Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and Dr. Todd Larsen, president of Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Director of the university.
Raja Imran, the project manager in the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, introduced a real experience for the new Hall of nuclear simulation engineering , which highlighted the new facilities and the benefits they offer.
The advanced simulators will be used in training students by allowing them to run virtual machines remotely and interact with real experiences and scenarios they might encounter while running the stations. The presentation included a direct connection between Khalifa University and training facilities at the Barakah site.
Dr. Todd Larsen, president of Khalifa University said on this occasion: «the virtual classroom is the latest trend in the field of distance education, which will enable nuclear engineers to take advantage of the high quality of education and experience from across the UAE, possibly from across the region in the future».
Mohammed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, ENEC Chief Executive Officer declared: «The development of the brightest national cadres to lead a peaceful nuclear energy sector in the future is the most important priorities for the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation».
Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Director of Khalifa University added: «We are pleased to open the virtual classroom stations for Barakah nuclear power plant in Khalifa University, which brings the plant two hundred and ninety kilometers from the university campus, and makes it easier for students to pursue their lectures remotely using best of the art of modern technologies. »

In December 2009, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, established by decree the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), the organization charged with implementing the UAE nuclear energy program as it produces electricity, supports economic development, and provides opportunity for the people of the nation.
ENEC specializes in the deployment, ownership and operation of nuclear power plants within the UAE.
In addition, ENEC is responsible for:
- Overseeing the work of the eventual Prime Contractor in the design, construction and operation phases.
- Working closely with the Abu Dhabi and Federal governments to ensure that the civil nuclear power program is aligned with the industrial infrastructure plans of the UAE. This will include overseeing work that will be done near the eventual power plant site, which would include community development, roads, utility and telecommunications projects.
- Working to build the human resource capacity for the nuclear energy program in coordination with the educational sector in the UAE.
- Developing public communications and education programs to ensure that UAE residents understand the civil nuclear energy program and are provided information on the program’s progress.
ENEC will also serve as the investment arm of the Government of Abu Dhabi, making strategic investments in the nuclear sector, both domestically and internationally.
