The current moment and future of nuclear energy in Brazil was discussed at the symposium “Nuclear Energy in Brazil” on July 5th organized by the Engineering Institute.
Leonam dos Santos Guimarães, president of Electronuclear, Reive Barros dos Santos, Secretary of Energy Planning and Development of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as well as executives of large companies such as Rosatom, Westinghouse, Spic Brazil, Nuclear Industries of Brazil (INB), Nuclebrás Equipamentos Pesados SA ( NUCLEP) and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), and the Institute for Nuclear and Energy Research (IPEN) participated to the event.
In addition to addressing energy issues in a variety of ways, such as costs, current needs, technology and facilities, the panelists discussed other civil uses of nuclear energy, such as the use of radioisotopes and other by-products in medicine, research, industry, and in agriculture.
