Extension of the Kaiga nuclear power plant in India

The Central Government of India, and the Economic Advisory Council of the Ministry of Environment approved the extension of the Kaiga nuclear project.

Shruti Rai Bhardwaj, Director at the Ministry of Environment, wrote a report to the Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) on September 5, about the environmental clearance and the mixed feedback from the local population.

Due to this project expansion, 8,700 trees will be cut in 120 hectares. In a letter sent to NPCIL, the Economic Advisory Council plans to compensate and authorities will plant trees in an area of ​​732 hectares in Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts.

The Economic Advisory Council has also placed a condition that half of the electricity produced by the new plants will be given to Karnataka.
