Finland increased electricity imports from Russia

Mina Neninen, employee of the Finnish Statistics Center, told Russian news agency Sputnik on December 12th that her country had increased electricity imports from Russia in 2018 from 6 to 8 terawatt/hour.

“In general, 23% of the total electricity consumption was covered from imports. Most of the electricity was imported from Sweden (14 TWh) and from Russia (8 TWh). The export of electricity to Estonia also increased Finland’s import of electricity,” Nininen explained.

The Finnish Statistical Center had previously mentioned that in 2017, 15 TWh were imported from Sweden, and 6 TWh from Russia.

It is noteworthy that the total energy consumption in Finland in 2018 was 87.5 TWh, which is 2.5 TWh more than 2017.
