Improving the Brazilian nuclear fuel manufacturing

An INB delegation visited Westinghouse and Royal Master Grinders in the United States, on August 11-17, to improve the grinding system for UO2 – one of the steps for manufacturing the fuel element.

The delegation was led by superintendent Marcelo Sobral, and Fraciole Ezequiel and Rodrigo Barbosa. Recently they were in Argentina to learn about Conuar processes (Argentine Nuclear Fuels).

PRODUCTION – Uranium enriched in powder form (UO2) produces the pellets, which are in the form of a cylinder approximately one centimeter long and in diameter. This stage of production of the Fuel Element is produced in Resende, at the Nuclear Fuel Plant (FCN).
