Increasing the percentage of renewables in the Jordanian energy mix

The Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that the energy strategy, to be issued by the government at the beginning of 2020, includes raising the percentage of renewable energy from 20 to 30% during the period 2020 – 2030.

Hala Zawati said during the meeting of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, on December 23rd, that the approvals will be limited to renewable energy projects, whose production capacity exceeds one MW.

In May of 2019, the Minister of Energy had expected to increase the contribution of renewable energy to 20% of the total electrical energy capacity in Jordan by 2021.

The Ministry of Energy implemented projects worth 50 million dinars in 4 years in Jordan, and the volume of investment in renewable energy in Jordan exceeded US $4 billion.
