Dr. Jitendra Singh, who holds the responsibility of Minister of State and Department of Atomic Energy and Space in the Prime Minister’s Office, declared recently that most of the nuclear plants are in South India and Maharashtra like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh. The government is setting up a nuclear plant in Gorakhpur, Haryana. A northeastern state like Meghalaya has useful resources of uranium.
Singh, who is also responsible for the Ministry of Personnel and the North-East Development Ministry, said, ‘There is a problem in setting up new projects — recently seen in Rajasthan. You can plant anywhere, and any statement will come within 48 hours.
Referring to the lack of funds in front of the sector, he said that in the last two years, the Department of Atomic Energy had formed a joint venture with public sector undertakings, ONGC and IOC to overcome some extent from the fund constraint.
