India is looking for Investment, Technology and more competition. Russia, France and the USA are the main contenders, China is trying to get into the market and Japan desperately trying to export its reactors.
In November 2016 a meeting will be held between Japan and India in Tokyo. In this meeting, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe will sign an agreement on Civil Nuclear cooperation.
The cooperation will open the way for Japan to export its nuclear power plant technology to India. Both countries reached a basic agreement for corporation in civil nuclear energy in December 2015, but due to technical and legal disparity, both parties did not sign the agreement.
Japan has been demanding additional Non-Proliferation guarantees from India, as India has not joined the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty.
“The Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament.”
