Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President of Russia Vladimir Putin will announce the signature of the agreement for the construction of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) unit 5 and 6 at the end of this year. The announcement could be made during ongoing 8th BRICS summit in Goa, India.
According to President Putin, Russia will continue to provide India with comprehensive assistance in developing nuclear energy sector. He further added that intergovernmental agreement on the fifth and sixth power units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) is now being drafted and in total, at least 12 new nuclear reactors may be constructed based on Russian technologies within next 20 years.
On 15th October 2016 India and Russia already signed 16 agreements on the sideline of BRICS Summit to deepen economic engagement between two countries.
