Innovation in on-line maintenance

The National Nuclear Safety Authority (NNSA) has recently approved the on-line maintenance & optimization project of the safety system for Tianwan 1 &2.

Tianwan became the first domestic nuclear plant which can implement the repair and maintenance on line. It could greatly improve the flexibility of the unit and release to a large extent the pressure of the workers’ in the period of the nuclear outage.

This project learned from the overseas experience and conducted multiple assessments of its feasibility and rationality. The research and study demonstrated the safety of the maintenance during operation day.

The NNSA is currently promoting the establishment of a “risk-informed safety management regulation” and issue a series of guidelines and technical policies.

Jiangsu Tianwan is developing the “risk-informed in-service inspection and optimization project” and the “on-line repair project”. Both have been approved by the NNSA as they have a broad application prospect and largely improved the nuclear safety and the economy.
