The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has announced that talks are ongoing with Moscow on ways to resume implementing the joint Iranian-Russian research project, for the production of stable isotopes, at “Fordow” nuclear facility, after being suspended by the Russian side.
On December 5th, the Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom announced that it had suspended the renovation and modification of two sets of gas centrifuges at a site at Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility for uranium compatibility reasons.
Rosatom pointed out to “the impossibility of following the standards of production of isotopes for medical purposes and enriching uranium at the same place!”; as a result of resuming uranium enrichment at the facility by the Iranian side.
For his part, Iranian Atomic Energy Organization spokesman Behrouz Kamalundi said that Iran is negotiating with the Russian side to remove a “technical problem” caused by the resumption of uranium enrichment at the facility in the fourth phase of reducing Iran’s nuclear obligations.
