Iraq Signs its CPF with the IAEA

Iraq and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed Iraq’s “Country Programme Framework” agreement for the peaceful use of atomic energy for the time period between 2018-2023.

 

Mr. Dazhu Yang, Deputy General Director of IAEA and Head of Technical Cooperation Department, from the IAEA side and Mr. Fouad Al Musawi, a joint official between Iraq and the IAEA, from the Iraqi side, signed the agreement in Vienna on 1st June 2017.

 

This agreement includes technical support from the IAEA to the Iraqi nuclear project. The Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Sciences stated: “The IAEA will provide technical support from its side of the agreement, in all the fields of peaceful use of atomic energy in Iraq.”

 

This agreement is a step toward reviving the Iraqi nuclear project for peaceful use after complete shutdown for several of years.
