Jordan chose China for its nuclear program

Dr. Khaled Toukan, Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) announced that the state abandoned the 2,000 Mw nuclear power plant project from Rosatom and is evaluating the acquisition of Chinese small reactors.

The small reactors needed lower funding and were more likely to be funded with international support than large power plants.

He added that the Committee has signed two memoranda of understanding with China to conduct economic feasibility studies of Chinese technology this year. He also made it clear that the committee is currently negotiating with China to consider building the same reactor China is currently building. This means that no contract is expected to be signed before the actual operation of the Chinese reactor and its connection to the network for at least two years.
