Launch of a Virtual Reality Engineering Application Lab in Shenzhen

In the middle of October, China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC, a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Corp.) launched a Virtual Reality Engineering Application Lab in Shenzhen to introduce the VR technology into its nuclear engineering design. Virtual Reality (VR) is a brand new Human-Computer interaction model by take advantage of the computer and the new sensor technology. It has broad application prospects in nuclear field, therefore China nuclear market shows great interest in it.

Currently CNPEC is taking the opportunity of Hualong No.1 project to try VR in three aspects:

  1. To support the nuclear civil construction
  2. Customer Experience
  3. Extension application of VR and Building Information Modeling (BIM)—to introduce VR to the construction management and operation and maintenance

Besides, CNPEC is leveraging this “VR Engineering Application Lab” to further the research on the application of VR in the civil design fields and is seeking to make breakthrough in the nuclear design fields in the international competition.
