Launching Arab initiative to achieve self-sufficiency from renewable energy

The Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) is considering launching an Arab initiative to achieve self-sufficiency in renewable energy–electricity, without the need for the linkage with distribution companies.

The Secretary–General of the authority, Eng. Mohamed Al-Taani, said that the authority will launch the initiative during the sixth Arab, indicating that the commission will circulate a draft of a new renewable energy law to Arab governments with a view to the success of the initiative and achieving self-sufficiency of electricity for citizens.

“Al-Taani” indicated that he recently met the president of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission “AREC”, the Moroccan Minister of Energy and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabah, for the preparation of the sixth Arab Forum that will be held in Morocco next April, with the participation of many Arab energy ministers, decision makers and Arab experts in the field of renewable energy.

The meeting also discussed the exchange of experiences between Arab countries, in addition to benefiting from the advanced Moroccan research and studies center for renewable energies, energy efficiency and eco facilities.

The Arab Renewable Energy Commission was established as a Jordanian initiative issued in 2014 in Amman, and the Presidency of the Commission is a periodical between the Arab countries and the General Secretariat is based in Jordan.
