The High-level Council for Cooperation between South Korea and the United Arab Emirates in the field of nuclear energy was officially launched. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the first meeting of the Council in the South Korean capital, Seoul, with the participation of the second deputy foreign minister, Lee Tae-ho, and the UAE Minister of Energy and Industry, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Al-Mazrouei.

Lee said: “The special relations between South Korea and the UAE are based on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy,” adding that “the Barakah nuclear power plant project will pave the way for strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two countries in various fields.”

In turn, Al Mazrouei said: “The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Korea Electric Power Corporation have already made a milestone since the start of the Baraka nuclear power plant project.”

The two countries intend to review the Barakah nuclear power plant project and exchange views on the possibility of jointly entering into nuclear power plant construction projects in a third country, in addition to increasing research and development of technologies related to nuclear security and nuclear energy safety.
