Made in China: The 4th Generation Nuclear Reactors

Earlier in August this year, a joint expert team consisting of China First Heavy Industry (CFHI), China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation (CNEC) and the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET-Tsinghua University) visited the Guangdong province to negotiate with the Guangdong Energy Administration a large investment of a manufacturing plant in Bai’an Industrial Park.

CNEC is responsible for the industrialization and the export of the High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor(HTGR, considered in China as a IV Generation Reactor).

If the HTGR creates domestic and overseas markets, CNEC is likely to be the fourth company who holds the license to operate nuclear power plants in China, following the existing CNNC, CGN and SPIC.

CNEC partnered with the heavy weight China First Heavy Industry (CFHI) another State Owned Enterprise (SOE) …Heavily supported by the government despite its continuous loss.

Both sides will establish the HTGR Manufacturing Plant in Bai’an Industrial Park, located in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
