Made in China: the DCS

The FirmSys, unveiled on November 18, China’s developed nuclear-grade distributed control system (DCS), to be delivered to the Guangdong Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant unit 5.

China Techenergy Co (CTEC) a subsidiary of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) created FirmSys on October 2010, to develop a nuclear-grade DCS product with independent intellectual property.

After the delivery of FirmSys, the Yangjiang power plant’s No 5 unit will become China’s first gigawatt-level nuclear power unit to be equipped with a DCS developed and manufactured in China.

FirmSys will also be used in China Huaneng Group’s Shidaowan High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Demonstration Project, as well as six other gigawatt-level nuclear power units – Units 5 and 6 at the Hongyanhe power plant, Units 3 and 4 at the Fangchenggang plant, and Units 5 and 6 at Tianwan – which means the system’s application will cover a variety of technologies and reactor types.
