Manufacturing of the half-shell reactor for Akkuyu Unit 1

Rovshan Abbasov, director of the Volgodonsk Branch of AEM Technologies JSC., announced the completion of the welding for the lower half-shell of the reactor for Akkuyu NPP Unit 1 in Turkey. The equipment is safety class 1.

The lower half-shell consists of a shell and a bottom; the total weight of the structure is 160 tons. The welding process of these parts takes place within 12 days with continuous heating of the weld zone. Next, the lower half-shell was heated to 300 degrees and moved to a gas furnace for heat treatment. The product was in the oven for three days at a temperature of 650 degrees.

After heat treatment, the design entered the stage of weld inspection, and use of the corrosion-resistant coating.

In parallel with the Turkish project, Atommash’s Volgodonsk manufactures various parts of the reactor and steam generators for Kursk NPP-2 (Russia), Rooppur NPP (Bangladesh), Kudankulam NPP (India).
