Morocco integrates the International Commission for Nuclear Safety Standards

Morocco, represented by the Moroccan Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security Agency (AMSSNuR), has a seat at the International Commission for Nuclear Safety Standards (CNS) at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The director-general of the IAEA appointed the Director of AMSSNuR, Khammar Mrabit, as a member of the CNS for four years.

This commission represents a permanent body of 25 senior officials and national experts from more than 170 member states of the IAEA.

It is responsible for establishing standards and guidelines for safety and security nuclear and radiological and other regulatory documents relating to the use of nuclear energy, ionizing radiation, the transport of radioactive materials and radioactive waste, as well as the preparation and response to nuclear or radiological emergencies.

The ambition is to provide strategic guidance for the development, review, and approval of safety standards, texts of fundamental principles and safety requirements to be submitted to the IAEA Board of Governors for approval.

It also involves determining the relevance of the safety guides to be published under the authority of the Director-General of the IAEA, providing general advice and recommendations on aspects relating to safety standards, on issues regulatory and IAEA safety standards associated activities and programs, including those promoting international implementation of these standards.
