The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) announced on Tuesday (July 9th) the opening of the first stage of the tender for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a 230 MW solar power plant near Midelt in the Atlas Mountains.
The agency said in a statement that the applications for the pre-qualification round of Noor Midelt II can be submitted until September 16th.
In May, Masen awarded the contract for Noor Midelt I, an 800 MW power plant with a value of $ 781.5 million, to a consortium of French renewable energy company EDF, Masdar of UAE and the Moroccan company “Green of Africa”.
The total capacity of the two stations (Midelt I and II) will exceed the already installed 580 MW capacity of the Noor Warzazat solar power station in southeastern Morocco, one of the world’s largest stations. Masen said both plants would use concentrated solar technologies and photovoltaic technologies.
Morocco plans to exceed 52% of renewable energy sources in the national energy mix by 2030. By the end of 2018, Morocco had a production capacity of 1,215 MW of wind power, 1770 MW of hydroelectric power and 700 MW of solar power, according to the official data.
