The Executive Director of Ghana’s nuclear power plant, Theo Ni Okai, said that his country is “planning to start producing nuclear energy in the near future.” He also added: “It is on the right track to generate electricity from nuclear sources by 2030.”
The statement of the Executive Director of Ghana’s nuclear power plant came, on the occasion of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission to the country, with the aim of conducting an “assessment” of the stages Ghana has made regarding nuclear energy production.
Okai explained that Ghana derives its energy needs, to a large extent, from hydropower and thermal energy, and he considered that this is relatively expensive compared to nuclear energy.
Okai stressed that efforts are continuing to “complete the first phase, of the project (nuclear power generation) implementation plan, by the end of 2020”.
