Pilot operation of the floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov

The Russian company Rosatom has announced the success of the experimental operation of its floating nuclear power station, “Akademik Lomonosov”, which is located in the city of Pevec in the Russian region of Chukotka, as it was able to provide more than 21 million kilowatt hours of electricity to the isolated power grid Chaun Bilibino for the power system (one of the Three autonomous power grids in Chukotka).

This great success contributed to the emergence of strong expectations that “Akademik Lomonosov” will be assigned to commercial operation in the summer of 2020 after additional tests and a permit from the Nuclear Energy Regulator in Russia.
