Raising enrichment capacity

In an interview with the website of the Iranian Young Journalists Club, Kamalundi, speaking on behalf of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), said that the Atomic Energy Organization is implementing what Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei demanded in response to the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement. He said that Tehran had submitted a draft of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to raise its enrichment capacity from 190,000 to 250,000 in 15 years, but the current situation requires a commitment of 36,000 su in two years.

As for the heavy water reactor Arak, which is supposed to make adjustments to its structure under the agreement, Kamalundi pointed out that it was agreed with China to conduct the initial design of the safety upgrade.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has responded to the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement in May by deciding not to withdraw until it knows what guarantees the European parties will provide in the agreement, and whether it will ensure that Iran’s economic gains from it.

At the same time, he took precautionary steps. He instructed Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization to take practical steps to prepare the ground for the resumption of nuclear activity. And, immediately after Khamenei’s statements, it announced the lifting of uranium gas production capacity and the installation of centrifuges and assemblies. The possibility of raising the capacity and proportion of uranium enrichment is the core of the nuclear agreement, which suspended enrichment by 20% and allowed to continue by 3.67% only.
