Renewable energy targets of Bahrain

The head of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Bahrain said that the Kingdom aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 5% by 2025, and up to 10% by 2035, along with a plan to achieve 6% energy efficiency growth by 2025. He had previously stated that the percentage targeted was 15% by 2035.

Abdul Hussein bin Ali Mirza, in a press statement, Sunday, January 12th, stated that two strategic plans were developed, the first is related to energy efficiency, and the other to renewable energy, and the plans include all initiatives and projects that should be implemented in order to achieve these goals.

On the sidelines of the 10th Session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, the authority’s president indicated that the Bahrain government has established a committee of relevant ministries in order to follow up the implementation of those projects.

He also introduced a number of projects that are currently being implemented in the renewable energy sector, pointing out that there is a project of 100 MW, awarded to a consortium of 3 companies, in addition to the renewable energy certification project.
