Rooppur Unit 2 approved

ASE Group, the engineering subsidiary of Russia’s Rosatom, announced that the construction of the second unit of Rooppur will start soon. That’s following the issuance of a design and construction license for Rooppur unit 2, to the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA).

Rosatom is supplying two 1,200 MW nuclear power plants of the VVER-1200 reactor type to Bangladesh, from which the construction of the plant has already been started in 2017 and its commercial launch is expected in 2023.

According to Varley Limarenko, chairman of ASE Group, compulsory preparations are being made to pour the concrete in the slab of the second unit reactor compartment.

Rooppur Atomic Power Plant (NPP) is being constructed on the basis of Russia-Bangladesh Inter-Governmental Agreement. This Agreement was signed on November 2nd, 2011. This agreement was done around the cooperation in the field of NPP manufacturing inside the Bangladesh border.
