Rosatom planned to launch a complex of radiation therapy by 2022

During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in May, academician Andrey Dmitrievich Kaprin, Director-General of the National Medical Research Radiological Center, told RIA Novosti about the importance of creating his own “medical” linear accelerators at 6 MeV in Russia.

As Rosatom plans in 2022 to bring to the market an import-substituting radiotherapy complex based on a linear electron accelerator with an energy of 6 MeV for very accurate, precision radiation therapy with the joint financing of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. The product is expected to be launched in the year 2022.

This complex will be created by a consortium of enterprises under the supervision of the Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics and Automation (NIITFA, Moscow). The co-executors are the National Research Nuclear University of MEPhI, the Scientific Medical Research Center of Radiology of the Russian Ministry of Health, the Laboratory of Electronic Accelerators of the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, the company Radiation-Oncological Intelligent Systems and Services. The industrial partner is Rosatom Khelskea (integrator in the field of radiation technologies for medicine and industry of Rosatom). The project is scheduled for 2.5 years, and at the end of 2017 NIITFA completed the first stage of the project.
