Rosatom wants the deal in Egypt by the end of this year

Alexei Likhachev, head of Rosatom, declared recently that he expects the beginning of the implementation of the contracts for Dabaa nuclear power plants in Egypt before the end of the year.

“We expect the inauguration of all agreements and contracts before the end of the year with the full development of the project: construction and licensing.” The timing of the licensing will depend on the level of interaction with the Egyptian side, “Likhachev said when answering the question when he expects to obtain a license and the beginning of construction on the project in Egypt.

Russia and Egypt in 2015 signed in Cairo an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the construction of Russian technology and the operation of the first Egyptian nuclear power plant in the el-Dabaa area of the Mediterranean Sea and an intergovernmental agreement on the terms of a Russian loan for these purposes of US$ 25 billion.

The nuclear power plant will consist of four 1,200 MW power units. Egypt expects that the launch of the first unit of the nuclear power plant will take place in 2024.

Last year, there was a development and the coordination of a package of commercial contracts on construction, commissioning and the subsequent service of the nuclear power station. The documents were approved by the State Council of Egypt. Signing of the complex contract is expected in a short time.
