Saudi Arabia and China military and strategic partnership

Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed 14 agreements pm March 16th on the sidelines of the King official visit to the Republic of China.

Three agreements in the nuclear field attract the attention of the business community, from the National Nuclear Safety Authority (NNSA) China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) to China Nuclear Engineering Company Group (CNEC) and Huaneng Group.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the regulatory affairs of nuclear safety for peaceful uses of nuclear technology was long expected by the Chinese side. Both Countries signed another MOU in the field of uranium and thorium research, extraction and production.

Finally, Saudi Arabia agreed to sign another agreement on the feasibility of the High-Temperature Nuclear Reactor (HRGR) project, which first unit in Shidaowan, Shandong Province is being prepared for operation this year. The fuel loading in the HTGR began three weeks after the visit of the King Salman, on April 5th. The HTGR plants includes two HTR-PM reactor modules driving a single 210MWe steam turbine.

The visit also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Kingdom and China for the financing and construction of the container terminal and infrastructure of the logistics center at Yanbu Industrial.
