Saudi Arabia’s first nuclear reactor

Saudi Arabia is about to inaugurate its first nuclear reactor with Argentina. The company Invap, a property of the Government of Argentina, has been working for some time in this reactor, located in the King Abdelaziz City for Science and Technology, a complex installed in 1977 in the outskirts of the capital, Riyadh.

The ambassador of Argentine in Austria and permanent representative of the country in the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, said about the project: “this nuclear reactor is a training facility, between 30 and 100 kilowatts, designed by an Argentine company, the contract was awarded a couple of years ago. ”

All the actions of Invap in Saudi Arabia are under the international safeguards of the IAEA.

To be operational, Saudi Arabia is obliged to accept international regulations as well as the body’s inspections.
