Seawater Uranium Extraction Technology Innovation Alliance

China National Nuclear Corporation’s seawater uranium extraction sea test platform was completed recently and put into use and opened to the public for the first time.

On the same day, the 2023 Seawater Uranium Extraction Technology Innovation Alliance Council and Academic Exchange Conference with the theme of “Collaborative Innovation Create the Future” was held in Hainan. Lanzhou University became one of the five newly joined alliance units.

Natural uranium is a national strategic resource, known as “the cornerstone of strong nuclear power, the granary of nuclear power”.

As the demand for natural uranium resources and the difficulty of development increase year by year, it will be an important strategic choice to explore and develop unconventional uranium resources while developing terrestrial uranium resources. The uranium content in seawater is about 4.5 billion tons. Once the technical bottleneck is broken through, the “unlimited battery life” of nuclear industry development will be realized.

In the future, the platform will form a “two centers, one platform” seawater uranium extraction scientific research base together with the research and test center and the international exchange center to create a world-leading seawater uranium extraction original technology highland.
