South Africa ready to take Russia in the nuclear program

South Africa’s Foreign Minister Lindiwe Sisulu confirmed her country’s readiness to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in nuclear energy with Russia during their high-level bilateral meeting.

“I think our president Cyril Rama Fossa has chosen a mixed use of nuclear energy,” Sisulu said on the sidelines of the 32nd session of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa. “I think that at his last meeting with the Russian president Vladimir Putin has a full agreement on this matter.

Asked about the date of her country’s signing of the agreement on strengthening cooperation with Moscow in the field of nuclear energy, she said: “The timing was too early for us to be able to absorb this. ”

At the 10th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg in July, South African President Cyril Ramafsa said that “his country’s economy is facing a lot of financial constraints in order to move forward with a nuclear program.”
