Starting the industrial use of the floating nuclear power plant

Andrei Petrov, general manager of Russia’s “Rosenergoatom”, announced the signing of an administrative order to start industrial use of the floating “Akademik Lomonosov” NPP.

He explained that the floating plant in the city of Peviki, on the Chukotka Peninsula, in the far northeast of Russia, has become the 11th formal NPP investment and is the northernmost of stations in Russia.

Petrov recalled that the plant has produced 47.3 million KWh of electrical energy and that it currently meets 20% of the region’s electricity needs and will later become a major source of energy after the interruption of the “Bilibino” NPP.

The floating atomic station includes an infrastructure on the “Akademik Lomonosov” ship that carries two nuclear reactors, each generating 35 MW of electrical energy. The ship is 140 meters long, 30 meters wide, and has a displacement of 21,500 tons.
