Strengthening nuclear cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh

Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom”, met the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikha Hasina, on the background of his visit to Bangladesh.

The meeting included a discussion on issues of bilateral cooperation in developing the peaceful use of nuclear energy. He also visited the construction site of the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh, ” Rooppur”; where the members of the delegation inspected all the facilities, in addition to visiting the village “Green City”, the area designated for Russian experts.

In a statement during the visit, he made clear that the two sides signed agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, to include making some amendments to the agreement between the Russian government and the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh regarding building a nuclear power plant as part of the cooperation of the two sides in the process of operating and maintaining the nuclear plant Rooppur.

The protocol was signed by the Director General of “Rosatom”, Alexey Likhachev, and the Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Yafesh Uthman.
