Supporting Iran’s electricity with 7,500 MW of clean energy

The Director of Energy Projects at the National Iranian Electricity Company stated that plans have been put in place to launch 46 thermal power plants, at a capacity of 7,500 MW, to increase the volume of electricity production and to save 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.

He said that there are plants under construction to produce 384 megawatts of renewable energy, and figures in this regard indicate that 44% of the renewable energy plants in the country are powered by solar energy, 34% are powered by wind, 12% are powered by small hydro plants and 2% are powered by thermal re-circulation.

He also indicated that operating renewable energy stations contributed to reducing electricity network losses by 459 million kilowatt hours and preventing the emission of more than 18,000 tons of pollutants.

It is noteworthy that Iran is seeking to achieve projects in the field of energy production as part of efforts to increase its dependence on renewable energy sources given that it contains suitable environment for this type of energy and in light of this trend, measures have been taken over the past years to increase the capacity of energy production through sources such as wind and solar energy.
