Tehran has 60 tons of heavy water at the Arak reactor

The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, has announced that Tehran has 60 tons of heavy water at the Arak reactor.

Salehi said, after announcing the operation of the secondary unit of the Arak nuclear reactor, “We have 60 tons of heavy water in the Arak reactor. We have used 51 to 52 systems to operate the Arak reactor”.

Salehi added, “Iran has not and will not seek to manufacture nuclear weapons, according to the fatwa of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.” He also explained, “The plutonium produced in Iran at the present time cannot be used to make atomic bombs”.

Earlier, Iran had announced the operation of the secondary unit of the Arak nuclear reactor with heavy water. The Iranian “Fares” Agency stated that “under the auspices of the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, the secondary unit of the Arak Research Reactor has been launched in the central province of Iran”.
