The danger of radioactive materials in Sahel countries

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned the five coastal states and Senegal of the danger of radioactive materials to humans and the environment, calling for the adoption of mechanisms to prevent the illegal use of these substances.

The warning came during the forum of national authorities and regulatory bodies in the field of nuclear security and safety in the five Sahel countries and Senegal, organized in Nouakchott on Tuesday 24 July 2018 with the support of IAEA.

The forum will last two days with the participation of delegations from the five Sahel countries: Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, as well as Senegal, and aims to create a framework for coordination between the nuclear safety bodies in these countries.
