The nuclear roadmap of Rwanda

Rwanda has decided to set up a center for nuclear science and technology (CNST) in the next five years, according to the head of the Energy Division at the Rwandan Ministry of Infrastructure, Robert Nyamvumba.

Discussions are underway between the Rwandan government and the Russian Federal Agency for Atomic Energy ROSATOM for the establishment of the CNST in the Bugesera Industrial Park before 2024, stating that Rwanda aims to use the atomic industry in the fields of agriculture, medicine, education, and electricity production.

The construction of the nuclear infrastructure is part of an intergovernmental framework agreement on the peaceful use of atomic energy, signed last December in Moscow between the Rwandan government and ROSATOM.
