Tunisia $ 5 billion investment in energy projects

The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies has launched a new strategy to finance projects in the energy sector through implementing new projects until 2020. The government aims to reinforce the energy security in the country.

The Energy Minister Khaled Kadour  declared that Tunisia will invest 12 billion dinars ($ 5 billion) in electricity and other energy projects between the years 2018 and 2020 to ensure the steady supply of oil, gas and electricity.

The Minister of Energy announced various projects to produce  and distribute electricity throughout the country. These projects include: the construction of a new power plant in the Rades area near the capital, funded by Japan at an estimated cost of US$ 321 million and will begin production in the second half of next year, and another project in the city of Sakhira of the State of Sfax (US$ 410 million).

There is also the project of extending a 600 MW power cable to connect the Tunisian electricity network to the electricity network in Italy. This line will extend 200 kilometers at an estimated cost of US$ 730 million and will be completed within four years.
