Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a decree committing Turkish departments to provide all facilities for projects to build nuclear power plants in the country.
“The successful implementation of nuclear power plant construction projects in our country to meet the growing demand for electricity and diversification and reduce dependence on imported energy resources is of great importance,” the presidential decree said.
Under the Presidential Decree, the organizations and administrations running these projects in coordination with the Ministry of Energy must provide maximum support for these operations to be completed without delay for the effective use of nuclear technology.
Russia’s Rosatom started construction of its first reactor at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in 2018. The project includes four Russian-made VVER1200 gen 3+ reactors. The cost of the project is about $ 20 billion and the first reactor is scheduled for operation in 2023, with a new reactor to be launched and operational every year.
