The Republic of Uganda, (Center-East of Africa), is negotiating with Russia the construction of its first nuclear plant to generate electric power.
Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda declared recently: “We need a nuclear power plant. We have electricity from the Nile, but it’s not much, it’s going to run out.”
The African president assessed as “very high” the probability that Russia will be awarded the project of the first nuclear plant in that country. China is also competing in this market.
In June 2017, Uganda and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for civil purposes. South Africa is currently the only African country with nuclear power plants.
