The Karachi project in Parkistan helped China to become the fourth country in the world who can independently export the Gen-III nuclear technology.

In China, Baosteel has been a key supplier to Class 1, 2, 3 nuclear steels which are widely applied in the nuclear island. It has grown into an important nuclear steel supplier. Since 2006, Baosteel used the nuclear steel as its strategic product, which effectively increase the development and production of its nuclear steel business.

This investment and strategy paid off in Pakistan:

The company has been awarded the supply of nuclear-grade steel to Karachi project, the first overseas project which import China’s independent Gen-III nuclear technology.

This steel to Karachi project is the essential part of the nuclear heat exchanger, belonging to the nuclear safety Class 2 equipment.

The project was originally an ACP1000, but it was rebranded Hualong for international marketing purpose.
