The National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission of National Grand Assembly of Turkey, drafted the law on the establishment of the Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology.
During the commission, İsmet Yilmaz, The Minister of National Education, talked about the development of the idea of the establishment of a science and technology university with the cooperation of Turkey and Japan,
- First time, it came into question following the negotiations with Sinop nuclear power plant with Japan, during Turkish president Erdogan and Japan prime minister Abe’s meeting,
- On May 3, 2013, Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Turkey and Japan was accepted in Ankara,
- On January 7, 2014, it was converted into written correspondence with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on the Establishment of the Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology in Tokyo,
- On June 29, 2016, an agreement on the establishment of the Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology was signed.
It is envisaged that the planned institution will be composed of leading academicians from Turkey, Japan and third countries. The students and faculty members will benefit from the high technology opportunities and the university will have effective and versatile cooperation with the private sector.
It is expected that the cultural and scientific dimension of Turkish-Japanese cooperation that created Marmaray, Osman Gazi Bridge, Sinop Nuclear Power Plant projects will be strengthen by this University of Science and Technology.
