New Projects in China

According to the “Guidance and Suggestion on 2017 Energy work” published by China National Energy Administration (NEA) earlier this year: five nuclear units shall be constructed by the end of 2017, while 8 new units will start their operation.

However, China only finished the construction of one unit in the first half of 2017.

Mr. Nur Bekri, Director of the NEA emphasized the commitment of the government to use nuclear as part of the energy mix.

Finally, China’s first fast neutron reactor pilot project is expected to start in the second half of this year, an important step to face the issue of the spent fuel and waste management.
